About
Bio of Bosta Man
In the year 2004, when I man thought seriously of putting my voice on tape for real, I man checked I brethren Keith Logan AKA Lizard, who was a bass player (who has since passed away). He checked his brethren Charley Fox, a drummer, and had checked a keyboard player too, but he never turned up when the date and time came. Anyway, with Charley Fox as the experienced drummer, Eddie man (who owns the East Street Studious), an experienced engineer, I man just said to them:” Come we go”, without piano, organ or guitar (instruments with sounds that are crucial in any form of music; more so in Reggae sounds when starting from the Roots, Roots Rock Reggae) as they would say.
All this time I man never knew any something about musical timing. What I man knew were the words of the songs that I man would be singing because it is I who wrote them. When Foxy rolls off on his drums and the late Lizard comes in on the bass, Rhydim gone! When I man comes in on backing vocal and singing along, I man timing after a while got so out of time that Drums have to stop playing to tell I that I man is out of time, and that out of timing had been going on for a while. The late Lizard had to butt in and say: “Don’t worry about Lion (as they call I man), Lion will get his timing right because he’s also helping to put the Rhydim tracks together.”
He was so right, because those few words are still with I man this day. And I man wishes to pay Tribute to my brethren the late Keith Logan AKA Lizard. Nuff Respect, R.I.P. Jah will bless thy soul. The point that I man is pointing out is, for a first timer at the age of 60 to stand before a studio microphone to sing with only the drummer and the bassist, could never be nothing more or less than confidence that I’ve built within from youth through the powers of the Most High, Rastafari know.
Time and timings are very crucial; not only in the rules of music, but in the rules of life generally, with or without Kallie. As time and sessions went on, from studio to studios, I man learned that the rules of music are the same whatever the language.
So, as a first timer, if I man wants to be a past of the musical families I man has to (and that is a must!) learn the rules. Which led I man to think what IF and it is a very big IF the inhabitants of the Earth were to have one rule for all the languages like it is in music, then the whole of Earth would be dancing and singing songs like I love you, and hear other voices, in turn I love you too, Jah know. Because no man cannot abide in his pomp woman too, for we are all like the beasts that perish. Nuh so?? Jah know.
However after I man first session, I man got to know more about musical timing. So when all the other sessions went on, I man was well equipped with musicians of all sizes and descriptions, first to colour what was ready there (which was drums and bass) and I man out of timing backing vocals. But that never stopped I man still to continue laying Rhydim tracks. Now things got moveable, so I man moved on from Easy Street Studios to my next brethren Donald Donaldson AKA Donman at Hit Room Studios, D.A.C (Digital Art Centre) in Ferry Lane, Tottenham Hale, London, England. Where I man added harmonies, by now the time had come for I to choose which two tracks would appear in the double A side single. Before I made the decision, I went to check my brethren Fitzroy at Body Music, still in Tottenham, and showed him the idea of a double A side Single.
When it comes to the sales of music, Fitzroy is a long time runner in the business, so his information is crucial to I man as a first timer going into the music business. Anyway, Fitzroy said to I man:” Right now the single is not selling, but with an album I think it would be a better seller”. When he said that, I man’s brain started to spin like the 24 tracks 2” tape, because what?? Now the double A side single became a 14 tracks album!! No problem because I am the singer, song writer, as they would say. So I man had nuff lyrics in I man’s lyrical bag. What happened now is that things got more professional and serious, where by I man started to think of more studio sessions, more colouring to the tracks and better timing vocally.
Here again I man checked Mafia on his mobile. The number 6 track called “Beggar round Town” was playing and I man said to Mafia: “Hear dis” and put I man mobile via the speaker box for Mafia to hear the sounds that I man had. When Mafia heard it, him said: “Come to the studio.” When I man heard that, wah?? I man got ready too long and take up to the 3 big 2” real tapes that were already in the bag.
When I man for the very first time entered the Mafia and Fluxy Studios, I man said to them: “It took I man 60 years to meet the I them.” It was a laugh. When Mafia saw that instead of a CD for him to listen to, it was 3 big 2” tapes. Mafia said to I:” Lion Heart you don’t have a CD?” I man said:” Yes, but I man don’t carry it.” However, after Mafia had listened to the tapes, he then said to I man: “I see where you are going and where you wanted to go, but the music is not going with you, they are all over the place..”
So when Mafia and Fluxy talked of how Rhydim should drop, I man, as a first timer, had to listen when the Dons in the music business talk… Finally I man asked Mafia and Fluxy to colour up the tracks for I and; so they did. The rest of the story is in the sounds online for the onliners to listen to. Log on…
