History of the Bosta

“As youths, back in Yallahs Bay, St Thomas, Jamaica, in the late 50s, we used to grate coconut manually for a Chinese man that we called ‘Uncle’, to make some pocket money.

During the night, ‘Uncle’ would boil the BOSTA. The next day, he would cut the BOSTA into bits we’d help him wrap. We wouldn’t get no money then; instead, we’d get bits to eat. Still ok… BOSTA is such a sweet like unto today’s crisps and chocolate, that youths would use their pocket money to buy. The good news is, it still retains the same hypnotic appeal to this day… Once you start you just can’t stop, it’s so addictive!

Your first impression you get is the ginger, that’s when the BOSTA takes your breath away. Then, the bottom line is the coconut. So, get ready with your toothpick to pick out the coconut from between your teeth, or just grab another one…

I could also go on and on about its amazing texture, its distinctively rich taste, its generous proportions, and voluptuous size but at the end of the day, the proof is in the taste.
